The Human species has walked the earth for over ten thousand years, evolving over time into the civilization that we all know and live in today. But Humans were not the only creatures to be introduced to life at that time. There’s history and a good reason why tales and warnings of night creatures have been passed down from generation to generation; stories of the dead rising in the night and feasting on their living relatives, and stories of men who take the shape of wolves under the full moon to roam and feed. Vampires and Werewolves (also known as Lycans) have been around since the dawn of men, keeping to the shadows and preying on any who might walk too close to the darkness. Whispers that these races were in league with demons and devils were common thoughts among their victims.
By 1500 B.C. Raven Lestat, one of the first Vampires, had risen among the ranks of his kind, asserting his strength to claim the throne as King over his blood-thirsty race. A modest number of Vampires occupied what is now Europe, East Asia, and Northern Africa; while the less common, but just as fierce, Lycan began spreading into the same areas. Around 750 B.C. a Human girl was born who would later attract the attention and affections of Raven Lestat, and perform a Lycanthrope ritual granting her the ability to take on the form of a wolf. Alena Wulf became the first female Werewolf, and later united with others of her kind. Mikael was the Lycan's King, and sought out Alena, befriending Raven as well. On occasion, small skirmishes between Vampire and Lycan broke out concerning territory and food rights, but because of the close bond between the Mother of Lycanthropy and the Vampire King, the two races were generally tolerant toward each other.
As centuries passed, numbers of both the Vampires and the Werewolves increased drastically, but they maintained their place as unseen to the general Human awareness. Tension concerning territory grew, but each leader controlled their ranks.
At least until 500 A.D. During this time Raven and Alena were traveling in what is present-day Hungary. Alexander, a mighty lord rumored to have demonic ancestors took the couple in, hosting their stay. Alena was intrigued by this lord's heritage and spent a deal of time talking with him concerning the darker gods. Alexander saw this as an opportunity to gain something of interest for himself, and deceived Raven by showing him images of things that had not really happened between himself and Alena, exaggerating Alena's feelings toward Alexander. The vision Raven received blinded the Vampire Lord with anger, and he stormed out of Alexander's castle, killing all of the servants and warning Alena that her betrayal would cost her dearly. The earlier tension about territory between the Vampires and Lycans was sprung at Raven's command, and many a Lycan fell under his initial attack and revenge. Alena was confused and heartbroken, but forced to aid her race and help defend the Kings of Lycan-kind whom she'd grown to love. She tried many times to reach Raven and explain what had happened, but the dam had been broken, and the war between Vampires and Werewolves continued for many centuries.
During the time of the Crusades, those wars were used as a front for more open combat between Lycan and Vampire. It was around this time that Mikael, the Lycan King, was killed, and a second in command rose in Vampire ranks. His name was Victor Van Alberict. After the death of the King, the Lycans remained hidden for quite some time, but came back stronger than before; many mastering a better control of their Lycan forms.
The raging war between these races has been kept quiet from Humans, but has claimed many victims. The Lycans that had originally been strong in Southern Europe, were pushed out of Rome, way north to Sweden, where they remain today; while the Vampires have chosen the present day United Kingdom.
Six years ago, Victor Van Alberict brought a handful of Vampires to the Werewolf's Den in Sweden where Alena and many other Lycans call home, planning to plant a bomb. But Alena and two or three of her pups confronted the Vampires and fought them off. Victor's party was killed, and the 2nd in command, himself, was sent limping back to Raven. When Victor arrived back at the Vampire base, he came back to an angry King and was banished from the coven for slaughtering Raven's 3rd in command. Victor returned after healing, however, and challenged Raven. In the end Victor killed the Vampire King, and took over his throne in the United Kingdom. But his earlier defeat at the Den in Sweden severely hurt the Vampire numbers, and slowly the Lycans have been able to take back territory that had once belonged to them in the first place.
Rome, a city with much animosity between the Vampires and Lycans, has recently fallen back into the paws of the Werewolves, after having been occupied by the blood-suckers for around 800 years. With this recent establishment of regained power, the Lycans cannot afford to feel secure and grow weak; for who knows, there may be dissension among their own ranks.
