:Welcome to War of the Ancient Races! We all hope you have fun here, but there are a few rules we'd like each
member to abide by. If you observe anyone in violation of a rule, please bring it to the attention of an
administrator. All of our administrators are here to help the members.
:General Rules
1. Joining: If you join as a member of this forum, please fill out a history form for your character. To aid
in this process, we have provided a sample worksheet to go off of; you can find it in the History board
and is called “Character History Template”. Tell us as much information as you want or can about your
character.
2. Activity: We understand that people have lives outside of WOTAR and the internet, and that players may be
joining from all over the world. But if you join a rp thread, for the consideration of your fellow rpers,
it is considerate to sign on at least once a day to keep the rp moving. If you know that you will be
unable to log on for a couple of days or even longer, please inform us in the sub-board "Leaving" in the
General board.
3. Spelling and Grammar: We aren't your parents or teachers, but please, to help with the quality of the rp,
check to make sure your thoughts were recorded into coherent sentences with correct spelling before
pressing that 'Post Message' button. There is a spell check button provided near that 'post message'
and it doesn't hurt to hit it before posting. And at least try to capitalize where needed, like names,
beginnings of sentences, names of cities, etc.
4. Posting: Each role-play post has to be the minimum length of three sentences. If you have problems with
writing more, describe the environment, the surroundings of your character, the feelings, thoughts and
inner speeches of the character, the position and expressions your character is displaying, etc. With a
bit of training, it is not difficult to write more. Obviously, description may depend on the situation,
but description of location/character, etc greatly improves the rp, and players understanding. If you
need to go back and edit a post, do not double-post in a thread where other people are posting as well,
just hit edit (and notify other players in the thread if the edit is significant to the plot). Give other
posters the opportunity to reply. In the threads, stay on topic and please, no spamming. Please take
advantage of PMs or the 'general' board to talk with others concerning out-of-context thoughts.
Posting OOC (out-of-context/character in an IC (in-context.character) thread is highly discouraged.
5. Hacking Threads: Unless otherwise stated, all threads are Open for any player to join. However, if people
are posting peacefully in a thread, do not just pop up in the thread and post like an attack, you will
receive a warning from one of the staff otherwise. Try to enter at a logical time. It doesn't hurt to pm
someone to make sub-plots or ask if your presence would be welcome in a thread.
6. Godmoding and Powerplaying: Do not godmod/powerplay/mategame in the threads. This includes:
KNOWLEDGE – Basically, if the person does not tell your character a piece of information, such as a name,
then you don’t know it. This seems to be the biggest godmoding problem: “She greeted the newcomer.
“Hello, Amanda,” she said.” If 'Amanda' hasn’t told you her name, you don’t know it. And you shouldn’t use
it until she (or someone else with the information) tells you. This rule also extends to thoughts and
feelings. Unless they post “she acted anxious” or something, you aren’t aware that she is anxious. This
also includes plans that a faction might have against another; unless your character is actually helping to
form those plans, they don't know about them and cannot act against them.
6a:LOCATION –Unless you have a good reason to be somewhere, like you live there or are traveling there for
some reason, you shouldn’t just randomly appear. So when you post in a new region, you should also say the
reason that you are there. Otherwise you appear to have a magical teleporting machine.
6b:POSSESSIONS – If someone posts that they have a hidden knife or a vial of poison in their pocket, you
cannot post back, “He knew she had a knife in the top of her boot.” In a real life situation,
you would not know that the person you’re talking to has a knife in their shoe.
6c:CONTROL - Only the person who created the character has control of them!!! You are not allowed to post
what someone else did. Even something as small as making the other person notice you or come over
to you is godmoding. Such behavior will not be tolerated.
7. Swearing: Do not swear unnecessarily in your posts, it only annoys other Members. Swearing in out-of-context
posts is highly discouraged; it is rude, and this site caters to players of all ages.
8. Advertising: If you want to advertise your own page in this forum, or affiliate with the forum, you have to
advertise this forum on your site as well. If you haven’t done that then we won’t advertise yours either,
if you later remove us from yours then we will remove yours on ours as well. Be fair!
9. Images and Signatures: It is highly encouraged to find a picture to represent your character, or to have
a banner made. However, for the consideration of all of our members, please do not post any images that
stretch the site and so obviously are too large.
10. Threatening: We do not want any threatening or swearing at other Members on this page. If you have a
problem with someone, then send a pm to this person and work it out so that it is no problem anymore.
Ask an administrator for help if need be, but please act grown-up and respect all of the other members,
think how they would react to your post, and ask yourself, “How would I like to be treated?”
11. Anonymity: If you have multiple characters on this site, you are not to reveal it. If you know a
particular person plays a particular player, you are also not to reveal that information, even if this
person has given you permission to do so. Writers on this board are to remain completely and utterly
anonymous. Of all the rules, please take heed of this, as any undue infractions may result in the
immediate termination of your account, and the forfeit of all characters (The character will immediately
become a canon character available for any new member to rp as. The character's history and prior posts
((in context)) will not be altered, and we will credit all prior work to the most recent email adress
associated with your account
On a side note, by accepting these rules and regulations, you enter in a binding contract with the
administration of the site. But don't worry, you aren't being sold into slavery, and neither are any
characters you may create here. Once you've created a character and completed that character's history
to the administration's liking, that character will you yours and yours alone. Basically, everything that
you write, you will be credited for. But you give us permission to copy and paste anything you've written,
for the purposes of our growing wiki, and for posterity. In addition, if you leave the site permanently,
or disappear for a long period of time with no explanation, we reserve the right to declare your characters
as "dead" in the site's lore as an explanation to why these characters are no longer included in threads.
Unless you specifically tell us how you'd like your characters to die, no mention will be made of it. Gone
for a long period of time is generally defined as not logging in or posting for a month or so, but this is
at the discretion of the administration. We're people too, and we understand that life can intervene, but
we'd love it if you could drop in for five minutes or so and tell us not to declare you as dead
Finally, we're pumped to have you here, and we welcome you to our little family!
