The Making
Hybrids are an anomaly of the Supernatural world; and that's saying something. There are a few ways to make a Hybrid, but none are terribly effective and there are no guarantees for their successful creation. Because of this there are only a handful of Hybrids in the entire world. (If you wish to play a Vampire/Werewolf Hybrid, you will need to pm one of the Admins and obtain permission.)
One potential way of creating a Hybrid is the coupling of a Vampire male with a female Werewolf. Because male Vampires are fertile there is a chance on intercourse of impregnating a Lycan who is capable of bearing children. This is very uncommon. Due to the natural hostility Vampires and Werewolves feel toward the opposite species, and the revulsion of taste and smell each species experiences toward the other, couples of Vampire and Lycan of any gender mix are extremely rare. Even the encounters over the centuries between the first Vampire king Raven Lestat and the Lycan queen Alena Wulf only produced 2 or 3 (exact number has been lost in the histories of each race) Hybrids.
Along the lines of mating, a Hybrid paired with a Human, Vampire, Werewolf or other Hybrid also has the rare chance of creating a Hybrid child, with the highest possibility coming from a couple of two Hybrids.
Another way to make a Hybrid comes from having either a Vampire or Werewolf. To become Hybrid, said beast needs to be bitten by a member of the other race. That is, for a chance to become Hybrid a Vampire needs to be bitten by a Werewolf, or a Werewolf bitten by a Vampire, in such as way as to transfer their genetic disease. While this seems to be a more popular way of Hybrids coming about, it still is not very successful and often times results in an unintentional Hybrid. The violence and frenzy experienced when the two races encounter each other does not usually encourage a feeling where friendly nipping is likely to occur. When either of these two races bite at each other it is usually meant to be fatal. A bite that is not fatal may create a Hybrid, however the change is incredibly painful, and many do not survive what has to be endured.
A Hybrid that bites a Human, Vampire or Werewolf also has a chance of turning their victim into a Hybrid. To be successful, the Hybrid must completely drain the blood from their subject, and then feed its own blood to the potential Hybrid. Again, the change is extremely stressful on the body, and a bitten Human has even less of a chance of survival without the aid of a heightened healing factor like those Vampires and Lycans have. Humans who have not hit puberty yet, and those over 40 have even less of a chance surviving a Hybrid bite.
The Look
Human Form
Hybrids have unique qualities because of their mix of bat and wolf. Most of the time, a Hybrid will look just like any other Human. Those who are bitten into the breed share the ageless immortality of their Vampire halves, and will always appear to be the same as the age they were bitten. It is possible and quite common for a Hybrid who was bitten into the breed to have some sort of scar from their turning. Hybrids born into their forms will age naturally until puberty, at which point the physical aging process will slow until the body appears to be in its mid twenties and then stops.
While a Hybrid will most often appear Human, there are certain traits that are common throughout the species. A Hybrid's canine teeth, both upper and lower, are slightly longer and more pronounced while in their Human form. Due to having traits from both Vampires (bats) and Lycans (wolves), Hybrids have a strong animal magnetism about them, and are noticeably attractive. While their allure to all species is high, this same primal animalistic undertone can also be somewhat off-putting around Humans if the Hybrid is sad, angry or frustrated. Though the Human may not know why, a Hybrid in such a depression can cause hostility or a deep desire to flee in the Humans around them. New Hybrids, those who tend toward their Vampire sides, and hungry or feeding Hybrids have bright red eyes. As a Hybrid ages their eye color will fade to the color their eyes were before being bitten, or (in the case of a born Hybrid) the color of their father's eyes will be inherited.
Beast Form
On nights of the full moon, Hybrids lose their Human form and their beast comes out. This form, until controlled, is extremely vicious and will attack and kill any Human nearby. A Hybrid's beast form is bipedal, and slightly larger than its Human form. All four canine teeth extend, the top to about an inch and a half, the bottom to less than an inch. The face itself, around the nose and mouth grow into a slight protruded muzzle, but is nowhere near the length of a Lycan's snout, and the eyes glow bright red. While much of the shape of the Human form is retained in Beast form, the legs and feet are replaced by thick paws and legs resembling the hind quarters of a wolf. Sharp claws grow from the fingers, and large leather wings (the color inherited from the pelt of their Lycan side) extend from the shoulder blades.
The Life
While sometimes it can seem Hybrids would be at odds with themselves, there are cases when one or the other of the contributing forces clearly has sway; that the Hybrid clearly takes after more of either its Wolf or Bat side. Though Vampires are not technically living creatures, the raw, unabashed energy and life of the Werewolf dictate, and the hearts of Hybrids do in fact beat. While some Hybrids may experience a deep rooted hunger for flesh and raw meat, the main food and life source for a Hybrid is blood. Those born into the Hybrid life must feed on blood starting from birth, but will not get their Beast form until puberty. New Hybrids must feed at least once a week or their blood-lust and hunger will rage out of control. Older Hybrids, those many centuries old, may get by with feeding only on the full moon, but even then, as the end of the month approaches even they will become more on edge, twitchy and violent. While the blood of animals will suffice for a couple weeks, only the blood of Humans, Werewolves, or even Vampires can really satiate a Hybrid's powerful thirst. Members of this breed can ingest food and liquids, but do not derive much from their consumption other than to appear more Human. New Hybrids, due to the incredible power driven into them so suddenly, thirst so greatly it is common for them to feed everyday until their metabolism and strength catches up with them and adjusts to the new life. Control over such urges will come in time, but until then relations with Humans can be quite stressful and nearly impossible for a hungry Hybrid.
Vampire/Werewolf Hybrids have increased senses especially those of hearing and smell, with an uncanny ability to see in the dark. Their strength in Human form is at least twice what a normal Human's strength is, and they have high endurance. Another large factor of a Hybrid's immortal existence is their heightened healing regeneration. Hybrids can recover from injuries as mild as a paper cut or scratch, to as severe as broken bones and third degree burns much, much faster than the average Human, with little to no scarring resulting. The odds of a Hybrid getting sick are near nonexistent.
This all being said, there are a few limitations and weaknesses to the Vampire/Werewolf Hybrid. The sun can quickly burn and kill Hybrids, and thus they live nocturnal existences. Very old Hybrids, those many centuries old, may withstand the rays of the sun for a few minutes, but are still weakened by it's exposure and will suffer fatally if not under shelter after 30 minutes. Though fire hurts Hybrids the same as it would a Human, many Hybrids have a particular distaste toward fire because of the harmful effect of the sun and its association to heat. If not exposed fatally, a Hybrid will recover from a burn with the same quickness they heal any other wounds.
Silver is the bane of Hybrids. If touched, silver will burn the skin, and if used as a weapon even a moderate slice may be fatal if left unattended. The older the Hybrid, the less harm silver will do, but pure silver can kill even the oldest Hybrid. Wounds caused by silver take longer to heal than a stab wound from a steel blade would, or even a gunshot wound with a regular cartridge would, and will likely leave scars. A bullet or other silver object left within the flesh of a Hybrid will burn and slowly poison them, leading to eventual death. If such occurs, any other wound near the location of the bullet, even if not caused by silver, will become infected and unable to heal properly; this is what helps lead to the demise of the Hybrid.
Hybrids, due to their duel natures, few numbers, and incredible strengths, are not understood by a wide population of either the Vampire or Lycan races, and as such are not often welcome by either with open arms. A Hybrid's existence can be a lonely one, being ostracized from their supernatural parents, and forced to walk the night time shadows away from the Humans, while feeding on anything in sight. Small groups of Hybrids have formed together in the past, but feuds and duels to determine leadership in groups of three or more can be deadly, are aggressive and much more widely practiced among Hybrids, even after an Alpha is chosen.
